Outback vision of lavish Oodnadatta Track festival
A Marree resident is planning a Priscilla Queen of the Desert-themed festival along the outback Oodnadatta Track.
Andy Rawle from the Marree Hotel is planning what he hopes can be the world’s biggest street party, with live music and four-wheel driving, next May.
He is keen for the event to be staged across an area stretching from Marree in a loop through Oodnadatta and Coober Pedy.
“We’ve got to try and get some of the communities involved, we wouldn’t want to see a couple of hundred people descending on a town of 50 people if none of the community are happy for it,” he said.
“So we’d like to try and get all the communities involved, decorate the towns, have sparkles coming into the road and have people coming onto the road with these lines of four-wheel-drives.
“I’d love to see a couple of hundred people, although I think in its first year it will probably be pretty small. I’d be happy if we had five people, I’d be happy if we had one. As long as people are having fun along the way, I’d be happy with any numbers.”
